STUDY AREA

 

Our study area is comprised of the counties in the Upstate region of South Carolina. These counties are Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Spartanburg and Pickens . 



The project is focused on analyzing food insecurity in Upstate South Carolina based on the factors like food accessibility, accessibility to the farmer markets, poverty level, consumer expenditure on food away from home or spending on fresh fruits and vegetables. The calculations of the factors were taken at the block level. The geospatial analysis was done on the basis of the rank each block group got after considering all the factors so as to determine which block groups are at higher risk of food insecurity.

 

A locator map displays the area of study and provides an introductory view of our project.
